Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion is moving closer to the release of a new flavor of its BlackBerry operating system. Dubbed BlackBerry 6, the new OS is expected to come to the market with a nice range of enhancements over the previous platform flavors, as well as with support for a wider range of devices, and with a great deal of performance improvements. Moreover, RIM seems to have been focused on making it a multimedia powerhouse.

The leading smartphone designer already offered the world the possibility to have a closer look at its BlackBerry 6 OS, but a series of new features have been recently unveiled, including a wide range of multimedia enhancements that BlackBerry owners would be able to enjoy. According to a recent post on the Inside BlackBerry blog, the upcoming BlackBerry 6 OS would arrive with features like Music Album Art and Discovery, dynamic ways to view and organize photos, easy sharing, streaming and searching of videos, new camera controls, new multimedia content and app, and many other features more.

“In pulling together this update, the multimedia team focused on delivering an intuitive multimedia experience right out of the box – so whether you are a power user or new to mobile multimedia on BlackBerry smartphones, you can easily find and use the enhanced multimedia features. There’s too much to talk about in just one post, so with that in mind, I picked some of my favorite new BlackBerry 6 multimedia features,” the blog post notes.

Of course, it still remains to be seen when exactly Research In Motion plans on making the new operating system available on the market, as well as on what new device would users have the opportunity to give it a try. Not to mention that existing BlackBerry users, especially those with newer devices, are looking forward to learning whether their handsets would be upgradeable to the new OS flavor or not. Since nothing is official for the time being, we can only hope that RIM would make the OS available for as many BlackBerry smartphones as possible.
