Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion is reportedly gearing up for the release of a new software update for its BlackBerry Dev Alpha devices, and should make it available for download starting with January 30.

According to a recent post on bbin.in, the new software update will arrive on devices with BlackBerry Hub, Phone and BlackBerry Maps.

The news site notes that developer devices were never packed with these functions, given that their main purpose was that of testing applications and games for the BlackBerry 10 operating system.

Apparently, an updated flavor of the BlackBerry 10 SDK will also be made available for developers on that day.

Provided that the rumor pans out, this release will precede by one day the official launch of BlackBerry 10 and handsets running under it.
