“If no one sees it, then it didn’t happen”: this is the kind of advice that Johnny Depp’s James “Whitey” Bulger gives his 6-year-old son over the dinner table in the latest “Black Mass” trailer, released by Warner Bros. on Twitter.

The film aims to offer a good look at the life of one of the most dangerous and feared gangsters in Boston - and US - history, and is based on the 2001 bestseller “Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob” by Dick Lehr and Gerald O’Neill.

It is directed by Scott Cooper and will be out in theaters on September 18.

In the meantime, Warners is drumming up interest with teasers and trailers: the first one came out in April, and set up Bulger as this ruthless, extremely violent and very cunning mobster. The second one elaborates on that, including footage of Bulger’s life out on the streets and at home with his family.

We also get a better look at the impressive supporting cast, which includes Joel Edgerton as the FBI agent bent on getting Bulger to cooperate with them and catch bigger fish in the mob, Benedict Cumberbatch, Kevin Bacon, Dakota Johnson, Peter Sarsgaard, Jesse Plemons and Corey Stoll.

This new trailer feels a bit on the short side, but don’t fret about it: we still have many months until release, so Warners is taking their sweet time in delivering fresh footage. A longer trailer will drop soon.
