Bing users are bound to come across some breathtaking imagery used as wallpapers for the Bing home page.

This because Microsoft has partnered with National Geographic, revealing that digital images from the world renowned magazine will be used to enhance the Bing search experience, being featured as the background of the search / decision engine’s home page.

In fact, users can already head over to Bing.com and see the first image from National Geographic.

Today wallpaper involves monarch butterflies roosting at a reserve in Angangueo, Mexico and was shot by Joel Sartore for National Geographic.

“Some things just naturally go together: Fred and Ginger; Bogart and Bacall; peanut butter and jelly. Today, I’m incredibly pleased to announce another natural partnership: Bing and National Geographic,” revealed Stephanie Horstmanshof, Bing Managing Editor.

No actual details of the partnership between the Redmond company and National Geographic were made available.

However, customers should expect additional images from the magazine to be featured on the Bing home page.

I’m also hoping that the software giant will offer a new Bing branded theme for Windows 7 users, perhaps packaging the content that the company licensed for use from National Geographic.

But Microsoft has said nothing in this regard, and it’s just speculation on my part more than anything else.

“Our goal at the Bing homepage is to bring you beautiful, compelling photographs that encourage you to explore the world around you every day, even if you never leave home.

“What better way to meet this goal than to partner with one of the largest non-profits in the world devoted to exploration and a leader in high-quality photojournalism?

“This month, we will begin featuring some of the stunning photos from National Geographic photographers on www.bing.com,” Horstmanshof added.
