Developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts have announced that, this week, they will be delivering new downloadable content for their first person shooter
Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Those who are gaming on the PlayStation 3 and on the Xbox 360 can expect to see the changes introduced to he game appear on Wednesday, June 9.
Those who might be expecting new maps will be sorely disappointed to learn that DICE is only making two of its best known and loved maps available in fresh game modes. Nelson Bay, a map covered in snow and allowing for battles to be fought during night time, can now be enjoyed in the Squad Deathmatch mode, while Laguna Alta, a more watery offering, can also be played in the Squad Rush multiplayer mode.
The two maps are free for all those who have bought
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 new and have the VIP code that came with it. Those who have bought the game used will need to pay real world money for the privilege of playing Laguna Alta and Nelson Bay in fresh modes.
PC users will not be getting the new content this week but they should not despair. A patch is in the works at DICE and once it is launched, although no clear date has been mentioned, they will be able to get access to the entire catalog of maps.
This comes just as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, from Infinity Ward and Activision, got its second map pack, called Resurgence, bringing with it three entirely new maps and two repurposed from the first game in the series. Resurgence is being sold for 15 dollars and managed to lift sales of Modern Warfare 2 when it came out. DICE has pledged never to charge its player base for new maps and to regularly deliver fresh content in order to keep the multiplayer community engaged with
