A couple of days ago, the first photos from the “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice” set in Detroit started leaking online, on social media. The other day, the first pics of Ben Affleck in character as Bruce Wayne also emerged and, with them, the first hints as to the direction the story will take.

We already know that this Batman will be different from the one played by Christian Bale in Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight” trilogy because Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara said this much last September.

Believed to be inspired by The Dark Knight Returns comics, “Dawn of Justice” will see a much older Batman forced to make his presence known to the people he’s been protecting all these years. Ben Affleck is sporting grey hair on his temples in the on-set photos, two of which you will also find available below.

This Bruce is “tired and weary and seasoned and been doing it for a while,” Tsujihara said at the time. Badass Digest has learned that this Bruce is a closeted Batman.

“My sources indicate that when BvS opens Batman has existed for close to thirty years, which would place Wayne in his 50s (which is why I expected more grey in Affleck's hair). In this version Batman is still an urban legend, a creature of the night, and no one has ever taken his picture. But he's had plenty of adventures, and the Batcave includes a memorial centered around a tattered Robin costume,” the trade publication writes.

So, not only is Batman a secret vigilante who would go out of his way to not have his presence known, but there’s also a hint that Robin might make an appearance. Of course, it’s doubtful we might actually get to see the character, because he could only be mentioned in passing.

The same e-zine notes that Wonder Woman has also been around for years at the beginning of “Dawn of Justice” but fans should expect a twist. “Her activities have been just as secretive as Batman's [and] [awesome] as well... but in a very different, and unexpected, way,” the report notes.

In other words, forget everything you thought you knew about Batman and Wonder Woman because Zack Snyder is out to deliver something new, and from what we’re hearing, darker and more thrilling to the big screen.

Snyder also directed the Superman reboot film, “Man of Steel,” with Henry Cavill (Cavill reprises his role in “Dawn of Justice”) and we all have an appreciation of what he understands by a “darker” story. Some fans are still upset that he (and writers David S. Goyer and Christopher Nolan) made Superman into a killer, but it doesn’t look like he’s stopping here.

“Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice” will be out in theaters in May 2016. There is no official synopsis for it just yet, so all these things mentioned above are just rumors.
