NAS-SC55PKE, looking really good

Yes, there was a time when CDs and DVDs were looked at with the utmost reverence as one of the neatest storage solutions for your digital music. Now, as the music server industry has clearly taken off and more people turn to this all-in-one solution, it seems like the optical discs are a tad obsolete, even if we're talking the new BluRay technology.

And of course, things have been taken to the next level: hard-disks have become the storage of choice for the music collections as they come with reliability, large amounts of space, fast and secure access to your fav tracks and have become quite affordable.

It's time to introduce two new exclusive music solutions from Sony, in the body of the NAS-SC55PKE and NAS-E35HD systems. The NAS-SC55PKE is one nifty solution for those looking for a network storage; we're talking an 80 GB hard disk which can hold up to 40,000 tracks and comes with its own CD drive capable to rip music at high speeds and label the digital tracks for increased ease of use.

Even more, the NAS-SC55PKE comes with Internet and terrestrial radio capability, can generate playlists and will let you transfer music to any portable players. Coming with a 4.3" color display, the NAS-SC55PKE can power up 5 wireless speakers with a max or 20W each via the wireless module, or can blast 100W in your local ones.

One the other hand, the NAS-E35HD comes with down-scaled performance specs and a lower price: it boasts the same 80 GB HDD but can hold only 15,000 tracks, because of its lesser format compatibility. It will also rip your CDs, but at a 4x speed (the higher model rips at 16x) and comes with stereo sound only, pumping as much as 60W. The NAS-E35HD also comes with an FM tuner but has no Internet radio features; it also transfers music to portable players, records from numerous sources and comes with an iPod dock, like its "bigger brother".

There is no data on availability or pricing; and yes, as you've maybe wondered yourselves, 80GB is indeed a small storage for 2008.
