Ubisoft has confirmed that a new Assassin's Creed game is coming next year, despite the fact that the latest installment in the series, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, hasn't even been released as of yet.

Ubisoft has quite a lot of best selling franchises, including hardcore ones, like Prince of Persia or Splinter Cell, but also casual ones, like the extremely successful Just Dance or Raving Rabbids.

In recent years, however, Assassin's Creed has certainly differentiated itself from among the rest, managing to impress huge amounts of gamers with its various iterations, prompting Ubisoft to push its global studios and release a new game each year, trend that is set to continue after the upcoming Revelations, which is out next week on consoles.

Speaking during its financial earnings call, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed what most of us already knew, that a new Assassin's Creed game is coming in 2012.

This was pretty much obvious from statements made by the designers of the series, who said that the next game will focus on Desmond, the actual protagonist of the series, who is trying to stop Templars from taking over the world before 2012.

As such, it wouldn't have been very clever to let the year go by and not release an Assassin's Creed game, so Guillemot's statement just makes it official.

The Ubisoft CEO also confirmed that pre-orders for Revelations are much higher than the ones recorded for last year's Brotherhood, and mentioned that, while its forecasts factor in lower sales than those of Brotherhood, actual expectations are quite high.

"We want to be careful and prudent, but we have high expectations for the product," Guillemot said, via Gamasutra.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood was a great success for Ubisoft, although the second title, Assassin's Creed II, remains the most popular in the series, which has now reached lifetimes sales of 31 million copies since the first game appear back in November, 2007.
