Apple scored a hat trick this week with the release of a third beta on its Dev Center, handing developers a pre-release version of the Apple TV Software to be used for testing AirPlay with iOS applications.

Developers selling AirPlay-capable applications designed to be used with the Apple TV set-top box are encouraged to download the latest Apple TV Software Beta from the iOS Dev Center and test their application for compatibility issues with the new beta.

Citing the included seed notes, people familiar with the software say that “Apple TV Software beta enables users to mirror content of an iPad to an Apple TV using AirPlay.”

“Apple TV Software beta is being provided to test the latest AirPlay functionality with your iOS apps and web sites,” Apple reportedly states in the release notes.

When a developer finishes testing and wishes to go back to a stable Apple TV, all they need to do is click Restore with the device connected to iTunes. Restoring through iTunes resets settings, accounts, and configuration, Apple warns.
