Services like FreeAppADay and other cross-promotional apps may see their businesses killed by a new clause in the App Store Guidelines from Apple.

The updated App Store Guidelines include a clause that states, “Apps that display Apps other than your own for purchase or promotions in a manner similar to or confusing with the App Store will be rejected.”

In simpler words, Apple is giving itself the power to effectively kill services like FreeAppADay, AppoDay, AppGratis, Daily App Dream and AppShopper, as well as businesses like Tapjoy, Chartboost, and Flurry.

Based on driving guaranteed downloads to improve an app’s chart position in exchange for payment, these services might meet their demise in the highlighted clause, according to Pocketgamer.

They outline that even self-made indie cross-promotions could also be targeted by the new legal wording.
