The smartwatch gets even smarter, even though it still can't think completely on its own

The Galaxy Gear 2 that Samsung released this past week at MWC 2014 is a lot better than the first one, but there's always room for improvements and new perks.

So you might be glad to know that a new app has been created for the device, called TurnByTurn.

Wearable devices have long been considered a good candidate for providers of directions.

Alas, their screens aren't all that big, so they can't qualify as good substitutes for GPS devices.

So Samsung went another way and added an app that syncs with your phone. And while your phone calculates the route towards whatever destination you have in mind, the watch will tell you where to turn as you make your way down the road or sidewalk.

You can still view the directions on the phone though, if you want. Even if the screen isn't big enough to show much of the map, it should do well enough in a pinch.

Symphony Teleca was the one that actually made the TurnByTurn app though, based on Nokia HERE's Android SDK.

On that note, more apps for the Tizen engine (the OS running on the Gear) should come out in the near future, from Symphony Teleca and other software developers.
