We actually dared believe that Chromebooks would start integrating more on-board storage capacity, but Acer's latest addition to the C7 line doesn't add weight to that assumption, not exactly.

Acer has formally introduced the C710-2856 Chromebook, which measures 11.6 inches and runs the Google Chrome OS.

The display is 11.6-inch HD Widescreen CineCrystal LED-backlit LCD, which means the resolution has to be of 1366 x 768 pixels.

Storage space is provided by a solid state drive of 16 GB. Quite low, but at least it's more than normal. Other Chromebooks only have the amount of storage needed for the OS to run, as they do and store everything else in the cloud (although there are other 16 GB models).

That said, the new Acer C7 Chromebook also gets an HD 1.3 megapixel webcam, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, and a microphone (video chatting).

All the hardware is run by the dual-core Intel Celeron 847 processor, with 2MB of L3 cache memory, DDR3-1333 MHz memory support, and 1.1 GHz clock speed.

"The expansion of our Acer C7 Chromebook line to Walmart is a clear indication of its growing popularity for anyone who wants a new or second mobile PC for web-based computing," said Sumit Agnihotry, vice president of product marketing, Acer America.

"The new configuration with a speedy and responsive SSD at only $199 is an especially notable value."

Like all other Chromebooks, Acer's C7 runs any apps from the app launcher and the Chrome Web Store. There are thousands available for download.

Sales are already underway through Walmart, both street stores (2,800 of them) and the online website. The price is of $199 / €199.

"The new model is available at an ideal time, since many consumers are looking for a portable computer for summer travel, or are already planning ahead for back-to-college," Acer wrote in its press release about the laptop.
