New ATI Video Driver Supports Ubuntu 11.10

AMD proudly announced last night, January 25th, the immediate availability for download of the AMD Catalyst 12.1 video driver for Linux platforms, brining production support for the Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) operating system.

AMD Catalyst 12.1 also brings early-look support for SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 (SLED11) Service Pack 2 operating system, support for AMD Radeon HD 7970, and various packaging script updates from Phorogit.

There's still no official announcement for this release, but Ubuntu 11.10 users should test it and report back the performance.

Available for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures, the AMD Catalyst 12.1 video driver offers production support for the following Linux-based operating systems: Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Novell SUSE Enterprise Linux, openSUSE Linux and Ubuntu Linux.
