AT&T has proudly announced that it's the first mobile operator in the US to offer a GPS-based service to its subscribers who travel abroad. More exactly, the largest North American carrier has gone global with the AT&T Navigator software, which now offers coverage for more than 20 countries.
AT&T Navigator Global Edition is available for owners of the following GPS-enabled handsets: AT&T Tilt, BlackBerry Curve 8310, BlackBerry 8800, BlackBerry 8820, BlackBerry Pearl 8110, Samsung BlackJack II and Motorola Q 9h.
Below you have the full list of regions covered by the new Global Navigator (besides the US, which is covered by default): America - Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Europe - Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and the United Kingdom.
Asia - Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang, Tianjin, Qingdao and Qinhuangdao (all being Olympic cities from China, where the 2008 Olympic Games will take place). AT&T Navigator Global Edition comes with 3D maps of the US, Canada and Mexico, icon-mode navigation for Europe and China, plus support for the following languages: US and UK English, Spanish, German and Italian.
"The introduction of AT&T Navigator Global Edition is just another example of how AT&T is the nation's leading provider of international wireless services. AT&T not only gives customers the ability to use their mobile phones in more countries than any other U.S. carrier, they now can use our robust GPS-based navigation offering whether at home or abroad to easily get from point A to point B or to find and get directed to a local business or service," stated Jeff Bradley, senior vice president, Mobility Marketing and Operations for AT&T's wireless operation.
AT&T is offering the new Global Navigator for a $19.98 monthly fee. Of course, the Global Navigator includes, besides the above-mentioned features, all the stuff that comes with the US-only edition of the software.
