Not so long ago, a new version of the ASUS MeMO Pad 7 was listed with several US retailers, indicating that the company was planning to launch that model soon.

Now the first pictures detailing the device have been leaked in the wild, along with full specifications about the new tablet, courtesy of MobileGeeks.

While some rumors have claimed that the new MeMO Pad 7 will be powered by a MediaTek processor, it turns out that the tablet has an Intel Atom Z3745 quad-core x86 SoC (Bay Trail family). The four x86 cores are configured with the standard clock speed of 1.33GHz with a max going as high as 1.86GHz.

Moving on, the MeMO Pad 7 obviously arrives with a 7-inch IPS panel and a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. Additionally, the tablet has 1GB of RAM and either 8GB or 16GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card slot).

In terms of photography, you’ll be getting two pretty average cameras (5MP on the back and 2MP on the front). In the connectivity department, there’s Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS, but note that there’s no 3G or 4G support. This is a budget offering after all.

Compared to the previous MeMO Pad HD7, the new model is much more portable, weighing only 295 g / 0.65 lbs and being 9.6 mm / 0.3 inches thick. The battery boasts 3910 mAh capacity but is not interchangeable.

The tablet will be available in black and white, as well as more colorful options, which will surely appeal to young customers.

The good news is that the default operating system is Android 4.4.2 KitKat, so you won’t have to sit around waiting for an update, which ASUS is very slow to provide. The tablet comes bundled with the new ZenUI interface from ASUS, which was first implemented with the ZenFone smartphones a few months back.

The only complaint so far is the pretty standard resolution, but judging by the fact that the slate will sell for only €149 / $205, it's justifiable.

Two larger models, an 8-incher and 10-incher will also be launched by ASUS with similar specifications. The devices will probably be officially unveiled somewhere around Computex.

With the new MeMO Pad triad, ASUS will be able to complete with Samsung’s latest Galaxy Tab4 line-up which also includes 7-, 8- and 10-inch models.

Also, LG has announced the arrival of three new models featuring the same form factors in May, so it seems that more and more companies have acknowledged that one size doesn't fit all and are looking to diversify their budget portfolio.
