14 DAY TRIAL // The market of liquid crystal displays is always ready to welcome a new arrival, so we suppose it is fitting that NEC has a new IPS-based panel to show off as part of its MultiSync series.
There never seem to be too many MultiSync displays on the market. NEC launches a new one every month or so.
The newest bears the name of MultiSync MD242C2 and, like the vast majority of its peers, utilizes an IPS panel.
For those that need a reminder, IPS has a slightly slower response time than TN screens, but much wider viewing angles.
True to form, the MultiSync MD242C2 has angles of 178 degrees both horizontally and vertically. They make sure the image is clear no matter where viewers are positioned.
Speaking of the image, it has a contrast ratio of 1,000:1, a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 pixels, a brightness of 350 cd/m2 and a response time of 8 ms GTG (grey-to-grey).
All in all, the specifications are pretty much what one might expect from a 24.1-inch display fresh out of the factory.
NEC promises that the brightness will remain stable for a long time, and that it is possible to calibrate it too.
White LED backlighting helps, and also makes the color sharper. Power consumption is reduced as well, even more so than with regular LED. The advantage is of 25% or so.
Furthermore, NEC implemented motion sensors that detect when users leave the monitor, reducing the brightness or shutting off the screen for further savings.
Moving on, the stand can rotate the panel vertically, allowing for a switch to and from portrait and landscape modes.
