Earlier this month, Smoothcreations, a company that is focused on delivering custom-painted gaming systems, desktop workstations and portable computers, introduced their very first netbook system, simply dubbed
Slice. However, it appears that the 8.9-inch Slice has now received a 10-inch counterpart, which the company has dubbed 'Wedge'. As Slice, the new model from Smoothcreations has been designed to compete with all the other netbooks currently available on the market.
As you might expect from a company such as this one, the new 'Wedge' netbook will make a lasting first impression. That is because the 'Wedge' is handcrafted and custom-painted according to the buyers’ exact specifications, which means that a user will be able to customize the 'Wedge' to his own liking. Moreover, the MSRP for this little thing is somewhere around $500, so it comes roughly in the same price range as most of today's netbooks.
As far as technical specifications go, the new netbook is, as expected, also based on Intel's successful Atom processor, clocked at 1.6GHz. It delivers a maximum 120GB of storage and is equipped with a 1GB Gskill memory. In addition, as with all such devices, it comes with support for wireless connectivity. Also, users will be able to choose from either a Windows XP or a Windows Vista operating system, which is one step better than most netbooks out there.
As mentioned above, the 'Wedge' will certainly separate itself from all the other netbooks on the market, thanks to the custom paint offering. However, we don't really known how this will impact its success with potential customers.
The company announced that its new 10-inch 'Wedge' netbook is immediately available for delivery, including custom artwork, configurations and upgrades. Models will be available at NCIX, Microcenter, Walmart and Smoothcreations, although these will be fixed configurations.
