Greenliant has launched new and energy-efficient SSDs, of sorts, for embedded devices, but it is not the only company with new NAND Flash product solutions out.

It so happens that SMART Storage Systems has officially introduced the Optimus 1.8-inch SAS SSD, which is its first 1.8-inch Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) SSD.

It can read and write data at up to 500 MB/s and has a random read/write performance of 100K/45K IOPS (input/output operations per second).

Overall, the newcomer is exactly what servers and other high-density computing environments might be looking for.

True, the capacities of 300 GB and 400 GB aren't exactly the greatest, but the form factor allows for more of the drives to be used at once.

Sample shipments will be sent to select customers from the second quarter onwards (Q2 2013).
