Author Joe Kissell has finished yet another two books for the Take Control ebook series aimed at helping Mac users keep their Macs running at optimum efficiency, while troubleshooting unexpected occurrences.

TUAW, whose Steve Sande has also written several titles for the Take Control series, reports that “Take Control of Maintaining Your Mac, Second Edition” (US$10) describes actions you can take on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis to squeeze every drop of performance from your Macintosh. In the book, Joe also outlines the no-nos of using a Mac, in order to avoid unnecessary issues.

“Regular maintenance is necessary to avoid problems and to ensure your Mac runs at peak performance, but it's hard to know what to do and when to do it,” a small description over at TakeControlBooks.com reads. “Never fear, because you can now turn to our best-selling author Joe Kissell, who has applied his commonsense approach to the task of maintaining your Mac!”

“Take Control of Maintaining Your Mac, Second Edition” provides answers to questions such as:

How can I tell if my Mac is likely to have trouble? How can I find out which unnecessary files are taking up space on my disk? Should I defragment my hard disk and repair permissions regularly? What are the safest ways to clean dust and crud from my Mac? What is the best way to keep my software up to date?

Kissell's “Take Control of Troubleshooting Your Mac” (US$10) has also been updated, providing vital advice on what to do with Macs that won't turn on, how to react when you're getting repeated kernel panics, and actions to perform when Internet connections go down or printers are balking, TUAW outlines.

“This essential guide teaches you 17 basic troubleshooting procedures and how to solve 9 common problems, along with an easy-to-follow way to troubleshoot novel problems. Whether your Mac fails to boot, loses its Internet connection, or is painfully slow, this book has the advice you need to find a solution,” the book's description goes. In the book, readers can learn how to handle problems such as:

Your Mac won't turn on. Repeated kernel panics. Abnormal slowdowns. Emptying the Trash when the Finder balks. An application grinds to a halt. An application crashes. Recalcitrant keyboards and mice. A dead Internet connection. Printing doesn't work.

Existing Take Control customers will benefit from an upgrade discount for both books, while newcomers can get the pair for just $16. Go here to learn more about Joe Kissell's latest works.
