Mobile phone carrier AT&T announced on Tuesday the launch of its AT&T Social Net, which comes towards users as a free mobile social networking application meant to deliver access to Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. At the same time, the software solution also includes customizable news feeds, providing customers with the possibility to be in multiple places at the same time, and to stay up to date with what is important to them.
“Five of the top 10 searches on our mobile Web portal are for social networking sites, a clear indication of the growing popularity of
mobile social networking,” said Mark Collins, vice president of voice and data products, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. “With this app, we’re satisfying the increasing demand for aggregation apps that make it easy for customers to be active in multiple communities simultaneously.”
The new AT&T Social Net offers users the possibility to view and manage social communities, to communicate or to track events in real time, all within the same menu. Along with all that, they will also be able to receive live news feeds from more than 35 leading news, sports, and entertainment sites. The new
application will offer users the possibility to respond to tweets, set status updates, see wall posts, profile comments and more, not to mention the fast access to new or unread articles from their feeds.
Another feature that the
app comes with is the possibility to notify users on the updates from their social networking sites even at times when the AT&T Social Net is closed. A pop-up notification will be displayed when comments or photos are posted by their friends, and it will also enable them to launch the app right away. The notifications can be disabled from the application's menu.
AT&T Social Net,
the carrier says, is available for a free download at the AT&T MEdia Mall, which can be accessed either directly from the mobile phone or online on the ompany's
site. Users should know that standard data and messaging rates apply when they use the application.
