Neverwinter, the free-to-play action MMORPG set in the Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms universe from Wizards of the Coast, has launched its second free module, Shadowmantle.

Perfect World Entertainment and developer Cryptic Studios have set out to further immerse players in the world of the action MMORPG, exploring the vast city of Neverwinter and its surroundings, learning the rich history of the iconic D&D city and battling its many enemies.

In this expansion, players can travel to Neverwinter Wood's deepest regions and fight through the Dread Ring campaign, play as the highly anticipated Hunter Ranger class, explore an entirely new Paragon Path and collect countless artifacts on their way to glory.

The Dread Ring is a massive structure built for ritual magic, hidden deep within Neverwinter Wood. The broken but still powerful region has many mysteries to uncover, and players will be faced with the countless armies of Valindra Shadowmantle before being able to engage in an epic battle with the mighty lich herself.

One of the strongest draws of the game is the user's ability to create their own content, similar to the way tabletop sessions of the original D&D are designed.

Players are encouraged to create new quests and campaigns with the Foundry, a robust content creation tool that allows them to seamlessly integrate their own adventures into the live game world.

The Foundry offers the tools to build dungeons, castles, cities, both indoor and outdoor areas, and to populate them with the lore, inhabitants and foes of choice.

This offers players the option to choose their own path for exploring the world, without being restricted to travel from hub to hub and do what everyone else is doing, as is the case of typical MMORPG titles.

The game entered open beta in April 2013 and released soon thereafter, on June 20. Neverwinter is now also available on Steam, having officially launched on December 5.
