Atari has announced that it plans to release the first adventure pack for Neverwinter Nights 2. It is called Mysteries of Westgate and set to arrive on Wednesday, April 29. All the players who are interested in new content for the excellent Neverwinter Nights 2 can get it from the Atari Store for just 10 dollars.

At the moment, digital distribution is the only way to get the new adventure pack but, in the future, Atari might release a new version of the whole game incorporating the content that will be released next week.

The developer of Mysteries of Westgate is Ossian Studios, which was first remarked for the work done on the Darkness over Daggerford game module for the original Neverwinter Nights. Atari is saying that the fresh adventure module will offer about 15 hours of additional content built around a coherent plot, which involves the city of Westgate and a plot by the Night Masks rogue organization. The adventure pack is professionally produced, with a musical score, voice work provided by regular actors and other additions.

Initially, Mysteries of Westgate was set to arrive sometime in 2007 but Atari kept pushing it back. In 2008, the focus shifted from it to the Storm of Zehir expansion, which offered a new adventure and allowed players to create a whole party out of scratch, one of the most interesting experiences in computer ports of the Dungeons & Dragons game system.

Neverwinter Nights 2, created by Obsidian and published by Atari, has managed to capture the mechanics of Dungeons & Dragons very well, while also offering quality single player campaigns, in both the original and in the Mask of the Betrayer expansion. It's nice to see that the company is offering more content based on a story and that, although quite old, Neverwinter Nights 2 is seeing new content.
