The NetworkManager developers released the stable 0.9.8.8 version of the NetworkManager Applet package a few days ago, a release that introduces a couple of features and fixes some issues.

NetworkManager Applet 0.9.8.8 is now started under GNOME 3, again. However, it does not act as a "secret agent" under the GNOME Shell user interface, which also fixes the lack of a mobile broadband PIN unlock dialog under GNOME Shell, and fixes the lack of password dialogs in some GNOME 3 based sessions.

Moreover, this new release of NetworkManager Applet fixes a warning that appears when closing the VPN import/export dialogs, it now uses g_debug(); set G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=nm-applet to see logging, and various translations have been updated. More details can be found in the official raw changelog.
