Snort, an open source network intrusion prevention and detection system (IDS/IPS) developed by Sourcefire, which combines the benefits of signature, protocol, and anomaly-based inspection, is now at version 2.9.5.5.

This is not a big release for Snort, but quite a few fixes and improvements have been implemented. Users have been asked to update to the latest version. Highlights of Snort 2.9.5.5:

• The issue with SMTP preprocessor and the ignore_tls_data configuration has been fixed and it now stops correctly for inspection after an SMTP session has been encrypted; • All rule evaluation has been disabled for packets on a previously blocked session; • The same restrictions are now enforced on relative PCRE for HTTP buffers as already existed with the text rules.
