Snort, an open source network intrusion prevention and detection system (IDS/IPS) developed by Sourcefire, which combines the benefits of signature, protocol, and anomaly-based inspection, is now at version 2.9.5.3.

This is not a large release, but quite a few fixes and improvements have been implemented. Users have been asked to update to the latest version.

Highlights of Snort 2.9.5.3:

• Several performance improvements have been implemented in order to eliminate some unnecessary work; • The number of expected connections (eg FTP data channel) have been capped in order to prevent memory growth; • A problem that occurred with the reloading reputation lookup tables has been fixed; • An issue with a potential hang during the shutdown of the control socket config reload processing thread has been fixed.
