Since technology tends to want to do away with cables, Netgear decided to create a pair of devices that can establish wireless connections between PCs and consumer electronics of various types.

Intel's Wireless Display (WiDi) technology is one of, if not the best-known technology that can stream video content form a PC to TVs or monitors.

Netgear has a HD adapter compatible with it, but has issued a new press release in which it goes beyond the borders set by WiDi.

Basically, the company made the Push2TV HD adapter that doesn't rely on Intel's solution, which means that users don't have to buy a new laptop or desktop in order to enjoy wireless streaming of DVDs, YouTube videos, photos, Full HD video and other content.

"Experience all your favorite content right on your HDTV," said Damir Skripic, Product Line Manager for Connected Entertainment at NETGEAR.

"The NETGEAR Universal Push2TV HD Adapter makes it easy to watch movies, TV shows and clips from the Internet on the biggest screen in the house."

Netgear shaped the product like a small box which links to TVs via HDMI or, when WiDi is absent, an USB adapter.

Its price is of $129.99 and shipments will commence in the US and Europe sometime in September, during the later half of the month to be precise.

As for those that want to stream media from a Blu-ray player to a TV, Netgear created a different, dual-band adapter, with a tag of $80.

"With all the video and music now online from services such as Netflix, Hulu, Pandora and more, there's a growing demand to connect smart TVs and Blu-ray players to the Internet," said Damir Skripic, Product Line Manager for Connected Entertainment at NETGEAR.

"The NETGEAR Universal Dual Band Wireless Adapter brings the Internet to home theater devices with minimum effort and maximum performance."
