American company Netgear has just launched yet another high performance and incredibly well-featured router. The new device is powered by a powerful 1 GHz processor and comes with an HDD bay that can handle a disk with up to 2 TB of capacity.
The official denomination of the new drive is Netgear Centria WNDR4700, but the company is also launching the WNDR4720 that bundles with a 2 TB HDD inside the box.
This is a Gigabit router and this means that all the five RJ45 ports are able to transfer data at a maximum speed of 1000 Mbit/s.
Netgear has decided to also integrate two USB ports on its new media router that will allow you to connect additional storage to the device and share it will the network or the internet.
Unlike other solution from some other innovative manufacturers like ASUS
, Netgear’s Centria routers feature fast USB 3.0
ports and not the old USB 2.0 variety.
Networking enthusiasts will also be happy to know that that the new router also comes with an SD card reader and that everything can be connected and set up through your smartphone.
The company offers a custom Centria app for Android smartphones through Google Play and iPhones through Apple’s own store. This will help you set up and check up on your router directly, using your smartphone.
Centria can act as a print server as well, and you will be able to press print on any of your devices on the network and then, with no wires directly connected, a printer connected to one of the USB 3.0
ports will get you your document or picture.
The new Centria is a dual-band 2 GHz + 5 GHz router and the maximum available wireless bandwidth is 900 Mbit/s.
We’re curious if Netgear’s new all-in-one router is also able to work with scanners connected to it, but the company’s presentation is not making any mention about this.
The new Centria routers are already listed online at $260 (200 EUR) for the basic version or $350 (270) for the 2 TB HDD version.
