Netflix, Inc., one of the most important Internet movie subscription service, just announced its expansion into Canada. The process will start this fall with the offering of unlimited movies and TV episodes streamed instantly to TVs and computers for one low monthly fee. This seems to be the first launch of the service outside the United States, but there's no surprise that a neighbour country is the one to get it.

Netflix offers internet video streaming ("Watch Instantly") to all subscribers, enabling the viewing of films directly on a PC or Mac, or TV at home. Internet video streaming comes at no additional charge with Netflix's regular subscription service, however only a limited portion of Netflix's content is available via the "Watch Instantly" option.

In April 2010, the Netflix application debuted on the Apple's iTunes app store for use with the iPad. It is currently planned that a iPhone release will be in Summer 2010.

On October 1, 2008, Netflix launched an Application Programming Interface, which allowed many developers to release Netflix applications for mobile devices including one for the Android platform. Netflix also recently announced an official Nokia app that allows some trailer streaming.

Netflix subscribers from Canada will be able to instantly watch a broad array of movies and TV episodes right on their TVs via a range of consumer electronics devices capable of streaming from Netflix, as well as watching on PCs and Macs. It seems that the launch in Canada will also mark the first streaming-only service promoted by Netflix.

The Netflix Canadian service will be available in English only, but the company said it expects to add French language capability over time. Canadians interested in Netflix can go to company's website and sign up to receive an email from the company when the service launches in Canada this fall.
