The new Netflix website replaces a four-year-old version

The Netflix website is catching up with modern Web standards, as its dev team is now releasing a newly redesigned interface after nearly four years since the last upgrade.

With a focus on device interoperability and easier access to information, the new website features a darker look and a lot of eye-catching animations.

The focus is put on a better UX

Information is primarily shown on the same page, eliminating the need for opening a new page whenever details about a new show need to be viewed.

Users can simply hover over an item in their catalog and automatically have it zoom in using a series of smooth transitions. Here, they'll be able to view the show's description while an image slideshow rotates in the background with various screen-grabs from the show.

Clicking the catalog item will open a bigger panel right under it, displaying all the details you need, including its full description, the episode lists, trailers, and similar TV shows from the Netflix catalog.

As you can notice, this update puts a high focus on better UX (user experience) interactions, an aspect that is considered the next step in the evolution of Web design. This is a trend that has reached the maximum it could reach when it comes to actual visual design and is now moving into an area where designers optimize how the information is consumed, besides how it looks.

You'll need a modern browser to access the new Netflix

The new website is also optimized for usage with smartphones and tablets, coming with complete touch gesture integration, every desktop interaction having its own touch analogue gesture.

Modern coding techniques have also been used, the Netflix dashboard implementing some of the most recent Web development standards. This indirectly means the new website will need newer browsers to render correctly, which the company has prepared for by prompting users with older browsers to upgrade before accessing the new site.

The new Netflix has already started rolling out to users and is expected to be available for all members in the coming two weeks.
