Netflix, the insanely popular subscription-based VOD service, has released an updated iPhone client application that adds full support for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, supports iOS 8 in its entirely, and offers a 1080p experience on the biggest iPhone there ever was (and probably ever will be).

The update is made official on the Neflix blog for US & Canada residents, where the company is excited to announce that “iPhone 6 Plus users will now see Netflix movies and television shows in 1080p resolution, including Netflix originals like Orange is the New Black and House of Cards. All you need is a good WiFi connection,” the firm says.

The VOD company continues the post with a story about their plans for the iPhone 6, which include a revamp of the Netflix GUI to match the Retina HD display pixel for pixel.

“When Apple announced the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in September, we were excited about the opportunity to extend the Netflix application to different screen sizes. We immediately began work on optimizing our user interface for the larger and higher resolution screens, and we’re happy to announce these changes are included in today’s update to our app. You’ll see more titles on screen to choose from, bigger imagery, and improved performance throughout,” Netflix explains.

Netflix 7.0 is for everyone, not just iPhone 6 users

The release notes for Netflix 7.0 are worded in such a way that you may think it’s only for iPhone 6 owners (“Optimized for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus so you can see more content; 1080p video on iPhone 6 Plus,” etc.). However, that’s not at all so. While most of the good stuff in this update is indeed aimed at users of new-generation iPhones, the new build also targets owners of older-generation iDevices that are running iOS 8, and even packs some Chromecast improvements.

If you’re not yet using Netflix, you can download the free app (provided that it’s available in your country) and start enjoying your favorite TV shows for one month, free of charge. If, after one month of usage, you decide that it’s worth buying the complete package, you’ll have access to unlimited TV shows and movies for one monthly price.

The Netflix app lets you browse a growing selection of titles with new episodes that are added on a regular basis, as well as search for specific titles that you can start to watch immediately on your iPhone or iPad.
