The Netflix experience has been improved tenfold on iOS, thanks to a redesigned user interface, new syncing abilities, subtitle updates, and more. The free app is immediately available for download on iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store.

Chris Jaffe, director of Product Innovation at Netflix, has worked up a video to demonstrate the new features in Netflix 2.3 for iPhone. He says that the new Netflix experience on iPhone and iPod touch is “much more immersive.”

The app now displays many more titles and galleries, bringing it closer to the Netflix experience on the iPad.

A row at the top of the new browse screen on iPhone and iPod touch lets you continue watching a movie right where you left off, and the Instant Queue is presented on the Home screen just below the Top 10 list (only available in some regions).

Personalized rows can be found just underneath the Instant Queue, and tapping the browse menu opens up a lengthy list of genre galleries that show even more titles.

"Parents […] will really appreciate the children and family gallery with many titles organized by age,” Jaffe believes.

Users can now perform a single tap on any title to get all the information they need (synopsis, characters, etc.). Double-tapping starts playback.

The search function is available throughout the application, making it easy to find something when it pops to mind.

“This new experience on iPhone and iPod touch together with our recently released new player experience significantly advances the Netflix experience on smartphones,” Jaffe writes.

The director reveals that an optimized version of the app is in the works for the new iPhone 5, “to take advantage of the larger screen.”

Android customers are currently put on hold, with a promise that “a new Netflix experience for Android phones [is coming] soon.”
