Simplicity Linux 14.7 Alpha 1, a Linux distribution based on Puppy that uses the LXDE desktop, is now available for download and testing.

A stable version of this distribution was made available only a month ago, but it looks like developers are moving fast and they have now managed to release a new development version with some interesting changes.

“Simplicity Linux 14.7 Alpha is now available for download in Netbook, Desktop and X Editions. It is based on Precise Puppy and uses the excellent LXPup by SFS to provide LXDE as a desktop environment for Netbook and Desktop Editions. As usual, Netbook is our cut down version which focuses on web based applications rather than locally installed applications,” said the developer in the official announcement.

The Desktop edition of Simplicity now includes Skype, Dropbox and the complete latest version of LibreOffice, along with Chrome. The X edition on the other hand is using the same KDE environment, but the devs are also considering the release of a new Media version as well.

A complete list of changes, new features, and other fixes can be found in the announcement. You can download Simplicity Linux 14.7 Alpha 1 right now from Softpedia.

Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
