October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Nestle Fitness has also launched a campaign to encourage women to get regular checkups because early treatment means the diagnosis is not a death sentence. The PSA is actually a social experiment and is already going viral.

The #CheckYourSelfie campaign is meant to convince women to check their breasts because everyone else does it too. The first PSA is a hidden bra camera experiment that shows just how many times men and women check out female breasts.

The answer is “a lot.”

Nestle PSA goes viral, brings awareness

Of course, having a woman wearing a hot pink bra popping out of a grey jacket helps a lot, as also does having the same woman slightly tilt her body so that all eyes fall on her breasts. But the message is the same: men and women check out breasts whatever chance they get.

All women should do the same with their own.

The PSA is embedded below. The second video at the end of this post is a behind-the-scenes look at how it was made possible, with actress Eloise Oliver explaining how thrilled she was to be part of this campaign.

“It was such an engaging idea. A really approachable way and fun way of making sure that women check themselves, whether it be yourself, your partner. It was an interesting experience walking around with a hidden camera. It took me a little while to get used to it, but after a while I think I mastered angling slightly my [breasts] towards people,” she laughs.

Director Ellen Kuras explains that they built the bra and jacket especially for the shoot, to be able to fit all the equipment and to allow the wearer – Eloise, in this case – the chance to move the angle of the camera around, through a switch in her pocket.

Kuras notes that all the people who came in contact with the team during the production were happy to help to raise awareness for the importance of regular checkups.

Seriously, check yourself!

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women all over the world and the second most common cancer overall. It kills thousands of women a year, being second only to lung cancer.

Even so, a breast cancer diagnosis is not a death sentence, especially if the disease is in its early stages. This is why getting regular checkups and screenings is essential, besides the self-exams you can also give yourself at home: BreastCancer.org offers easy steps and illustrations for these.

Whenever you notice something abnormal about one or both breasts, be it in shape or color, you should see your doctor about it without delay.
