NeroLinux 3 Beta has been released, after it was announced at CeBIT (Centre of Bureau and Information Technology), the world's largest computer expo held each spring in Hanover, Germany. NeroLinux comes with almost all the necessary packages for recording CDs and DVDs as default. However, according to its user guide, for some special features NeroLinux relies on some additional programs and packages installed on your system : mpg 123 software MPEG 1-LayerIII decoder is used to allow recording of MP3 files on CD as regular audio, the ogg 123 command line ogg-vorbis decoder as well as the oggtst package are needed to be able to play and record ogg-vorbis files.

NeroLinux has dependency test functionality built-in and will let you know when a program is needed and cannot be found. NeroLinux is packaged in the RPM and Debian formats, used by most of the Linux distributions.

The new version of NeroLinux brings amazing features like Blu-Ray and HD DVD data recording support, but also an improved GUI (graphical user interface) that is similar to the one from Nero Burning ROM 7 edition.

Highlights

■ NeroLinux 3 came with support for 64-bit systems and Unicode support for many languages
■ Autodetection and support for all types of internal CD and DVD recorders supported by NeroAPI 6.6
■ Supports hot plug for external USB devices, without any application restart
■ Supports 2.4 and 2.6 kernel flavors
■ Fully compatible with FreeDB, to automatically get disc information over the Internet
■ Stores and reloads compilations in XML format
