Nero, undoubtedly one of the most popular producers of disc burning solutions on the market, has announced that Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) has awarded them with the BD-Live (BD-Profile 2.0) certification which will be supported by products developed starting this fall.

Consequently, future Nero desktop applications will be able to provide Blu-ray owners with both HD playback, and interactive BD-Live movie experience.

“In our effort to deliver a complete HD video experience to creative enthusiasts and home hobbyists, we felt it was critical to ensure our software was BD-Live certified,” said Martin Stein, Senior Vice President, Global Products at Nero.

“As a result of this certification, we will be able to deliver a true BD-Live experience to Nero users. We can now seamlessly bridge between the convergence of HD video playback and Internet-enabled features, thus enhancing the overall entertainment experience for our consumers.”

BD-Live is an innovative Blu-ray standard that is meant to offer users the possibility to enjoy a wider range of activities, including social networking and instant messaging.

Furthermore, when playing Blu-ray discs using Nero software, one will be able to rely on BD-Live to get downloadable trailers or subtitles, as well as engage in online multi-player gaming.

Besides the functionality offered by BD-Live as a standard, Nero users can also explore the already implemented support for BD-Profile 1.1 (BonusView) within its products.

In other words,  users will be able to enjoy the benefits of the Picture-in-Picture feature, which will display an inset window within a larger movie window that will show related video commentaries (like actors or directors discussing the scene currently taking place).

Needless to say, the functionality provided by the BD-Live standard will exceed the one offered by BD-Profile 1.1 (BonusView) in the sense that it will be the users who choose the features they require, and rely exclusively on them, without resorting to the unnecessary ones.
