The latest release of Nero is just a few days away. Although the company has given little details on the product, it appears that Nero 8 is scheduled to become available to general consumers on September 26. According to Amazon.co.uk, Nero 8 will drop in just three days, and comes with a price tag of ?53.98, down from no less than ?59.99, which seems to be the full price. The packaging included on the left does not refer to a specific Nero 8 edition, and only states that the program is designed for Windows XP. In this context, Amazon.com also features an entry on Nero 8, but this time Nero 8 Ultra Edition supported on Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows Vista.

However, Amazon.com does not offer any additional information, stating only that "availability: Currently unavailable. We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock." But even if Amazon.co.uk states that Nero 8 is supported only on Windows XP, the actual box release proves that this is not the case. The fact of the matter is that you too will be able to see the Certified for Windows Vista logo on the side of the box. It is not uncommon for a software developer to certify its products for Windows Vista prior to release. Kaspersky did it with Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0.

Microsoft's own "Application List: Certified for Windows Vista" does not contain any reference to Nero 8, but the enumeration of programs is in dire need of an update. "The "Certified for Windows Vista" logo is a compatibility designation for applications and devices that have passed a rigorous testing program on computers that are running Windows Vista. The technical requirements for this designation target four core areas: reliability, security, compatibility with Windows Vista and future operating systems, and installation and removal," Microsoft explained.

According to the scarce details available from third party sources, Nero 8 will bring to the table an overhauled graphical user interface and will weigh just as much as the prior release did, an aspect interpreted as a minus by the users.
