New patch released for the popular office suite for Mac

Not even a full day into the release of Patch 6 for NeoOffice 3.0, the suite’s developers were notified of a problem where the Sun Presentation Minimizer extension license agreement caused Patch-6 installation to hang. The team behind the free office tool hence rapidly issued a fix under the form of a new patch.

NeoOffice is based on the OpenOffice.org office suite, integrating native Mac features. The full-featured set of office applications boasts the ability to import, edit and exchange files with other office programs. Most Microsoft Office 2007 Word, Excel and PowerPoint files are supported, as are Excel VBA Macros. The software requires that you have at least 512 MB of memory and 400 MB of free disk space.

Besides adding default support for determining which module opens when launching OpenOffice, Patch 6 brings half a dozen bug fixes. The issues include a possible crash when opening a certain .doc file, a problem where the Sun Presentation Minimizer crashes NeoOffice, a bug where the update check dialog window appears twice when starting with the -nodefault launch option, as well as one that prevents RTF files with MacRoman encoding from being read properly.

NeoOffice 3.0 Patch 7 requires a full installation of NeoOffice 3.0 and will not install on any previous version of NeoOffice. The patch includes all fixes and additions of previous patches. Similarly, NeoOffice 2.2.5 Patch 14 can only be installed over an installed copy of NeoOffice 2.2.5.
