14 DAY TRIAL // Last week, the developers at NeoOffice.org announced early access to the latest version of NeoOffice 3.0 to users supporting development. NeoOffice is a full-featured set of office applications developed especially for Mac OS X. The suite includes word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, drawing and database programs and supports most Microsoft Office 2007 Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, as well as Excel VBA Macros.
“Since developers released NeoOffice 3.0 Early Access a week ago, they have been quickly fixing any significant bugs found by NeoOffice Early Access Program members,” reads a post on FreeSMUG, the free OpenSource software Mac user group. “To ensure that NeoOffice Early Access Members who are testing this release have the most stable code available, they have released NeoOffice 3.0 Early Access 2 Patch 0,” the post goes.
A list of the bugs fixed in NeoOffice 3.0 Early Access 2 Patch 0 is also provided as follows:
- Thesaurus missing - Fonts preview does not work - "Copy and insert" key combination not working in Calc - Patch installer follows infinite softlink loops - Form controls within documents flicker neurotically in Calc and Writer - Conflict between NeoOffice and Typinator - Gridlines do not appear on color background - Thunderbird address book support does not work - Automatic update check causes NeoOffice to hang - Alt-arrow keys do not work - Selection color in Calc is too light to see clearly - Cannot turn off Mac OS X Services.
“Because NeoOffice 3.0 Early Access 2 is only our second release based on the OpenOffice.org 3.0.1 code, we expect that there will be many support issues,” says the development team. “If you have any issues or questions, please visit the NeoWiki or post any questions in the NeoOffice Early Access Program Support forum,” NeoOffice.org advises users.
Those interested in using the new version of the suite should note that NeoOffice 3.0 Early Access 2 is not a production release, meaning it may still contain nasty bugs. As such, for those who rely on their work carried out in the suite, there's always the option of downloading and using the latest stable version of the software. Currently, the latest stable build of NeoOffice is 2.2.5 (with Patch 6).
