It seems that we're moving from an
update-packed
Wednesday to an update frenzy week. Mac owners using NeoOffice can now update their full-featured office set of apps to
version 2.2.3. The latest version adds QuickTime video support, allowing menu access when no documents are open. Also, users can import images from scanners and cameras.
Those looking to pick up on NeoOffice should know that it is a full-featured set of office applications (including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, drawing, and database programs) for Mac OS X. NeoOffice is based on the OpenOffice.org office suite. It integrates many native Mac features and can import, edit, and exchange files with other office programs, even Microsoft's.
Looking deeper into what NeoOffice 2.2.3 can do for you, the key features list for this version says Neo handles Most Microsoft Office 2007 Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Files, but also Excel VBA Macros. The upper mentioned QuickTime video support (Mac OS X 10.4.x and higher only) should also be noted as a key feature with 2.2.3, while import images from scanners and cameras should also come in handy should you need to quickly add some sentiment to your school projects for example.
Last, but not least, Neo 2.2.3 also adds command-clicking on window titlebar and Mac OS X Leopard grammar checking support.
Note: the latter works with Mac OS X 10.5.x only!
Previous releases of NeoOffice did not support display of video files in documents and only supported playing a video file's soundtrack. Now you can display QuickTime-compatible video files in your documents. Naturally, protected files (iTunes purchases for example) are not supported.
Also, the previously minimal set of menu items available if no documents were open is history! With Neo Office 2.2.3 you can access your most frequently used menus (e.g.: Recent Documents and NeoOffice Help). A new menu has also been added: - Tools :: Add-ons :: Paste Image from Camera or Scanner.
