Publisher Appular and developer Xtremics recently announced the release of Neo Defender 2 arcade space shooter game for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices. The retro-style game offers a challenging gameplay, by combining all the elements that usually make arcade games so addictive.

The story of the game puts the player in the role of a defender of the galaxy caught in the midst of an intense intergalactic battle for survival. The last surviving craft of an entire race needs to be defended against increasing waves of cosmic adversaries.

“Our goal with Neo Defender 2 is to bring the arcade style back for classic gaming fans, and infuse it with new elements like power-ups, weapons, and modern graphics,” says Scott Wilson-Billing, software developer for MeYuMe.

“Playing arcade classics brings back great memories for gamers. Those older games have a certain nostalgic charm. Neo Defender 2 aims to bring back that wistfulness while adding features that today’s gamers have come to expect in a great title,” added Scott.

Neo Defender 2 offers players multiple ways of shooting their adversaries by single touching the screen, dual touching or continuously firing to effectively defend against huge waves of kamikaze crafts.

By killing waves of enemies, players will win rewards in the form of crystals, which can be spent on purchasing shields, power-ups, nukes and craft repairs that will better prepare them for their next wave of enemies.

Players can receive achievements such as Captain of the Stars and Captain of the Galaxy if they manage to overcome various encounters with aggressive bosses who appear in select levels alongside their minions.

Neo Defender 2 is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad running iOS 3.0 or later and requires 13.7 MB storage space.

The game is available for download from Softpedia and can be purchased for $0.99 for the iPhone and iPod Touch, and $1.99 for the iPad version.
