Neo 808i, Forever Young (and Small)

- One of the smallest mobile phones existent

By: Florin Troaca, Communications News Editor

Neo DWC-LLC., a UK & Dubai based company, unveiled its first mobile phone, Neo 808i, a handset that presents itself as one of the smallest mobile phones ever created. Neo 808i comes
with a pretty weird design, as its "normal" position is a horizontal one, unlike most of the mobile phones. Due to its reduced size and incredibly small keypad, the phone will probably be seen as "cool" only by women and girls. Men generally have thicker fingers, among other thick things, and the use of a tiny keypad would be a real torture.

Neo 808i comes in two color variants, a red/black and a silver/pink one. Its exterior is made of brushed aluminum and its display is a 262K colors TFT one that measures 26 x 21 millimeters (1.02 x 0.82 inches) – a very small display, I'm sure you all agree. However, the Neo company wants its product to portray the "forever young" spirit, hence it designed the handset with this in mind.

Although Neo 808i weighs 90 grams and measures only 41 x 72 x 14 millimeters, it manages to pack almost all the features someone might want from a modern mobile phone. The device offers tri-band GSM / GPRS connectivity (900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz), automatic switching between bands, MP3 and MP4 players, FM Radio, WAP, Bluetooth with Data Transfer, USB, a 1.2 Megapixel camera, Audio & Video recorder, 128MB microSD card (expandable up to 4GB), Predictive text input, Games, Image Editor, Health features, Calculator, Currency and weight/length converter and so on. Furthermore, Neo 808i comes with a 530 mAh Li battery that can provide up to 100 minutes of talk-time and up to 100 hours of stand-by time.

Neo 808i is currently available only in the UAE (United Arab Emirates), one of the richest countries in the world, but it will be launched during 2008 in Europe, North America and other Asian countries. There are no details about the phone's price, but I assume it won't be an affordable one. You can't be "forever young" without paying a lot of money, right?
