Neil Armstrong Lied About How His Famous Moonwalk Quote Came to Him

Neil Armstrong's moon landing “speech” (i.e. “That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind”) is now causing quite a media stir.

This is because this daredevil's brother, Dean Armstrong, recently made one very shocking announcement: the speech was by no means a spontaneous one, as Neil Armstrong maintained in countless interviews and even in his autobiography.

Quite the contrary: Neil and Dean spent rather numerous months trying to coin a statement worthy of marking man's landing on the moon.

Space
reports that, as peculiar as this might sound, Neil Armstrong came up with his trademark words while watching a game of Risk with his brother.

Thus, he merely scribbled the statement on a piece of paper, and handed it to his brother, calmly waiting for his opinion.

Truth be told, there is little doubt that Neil would have stuck to the words written on said piece of paper regardless of what his brother might have said.

“Before he went to the Cape, he invited me down to spend a little time with him. He said 'Why don’t you and I, once the boys go to bed, why don’t we play a game of Risk.' I said I’d enjoy that. We started playing Risk and then he slipped me a piece of paper and said 'read that.' I did,” Dean Armstrong recollects.

Furthermore, “On that piece of paper there was 'That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.' He says 'What do you think about that?' I said 'Fabulous.' He said 'I thought you might like that, but I wanted you to read it.'”

Dean Armstrong's claims are part and parcel of a new BBC documentary, entitled "Neil Armstrong — First Man on the Moon".

For the time being, ordinary folks and trained astronauts cannot help but wonder how Neil Armstrong would have responded to these “accusations” formulated by his brother.

I don't think it make a differance wheather Neil Armstrong prepared the statement before the landing on the moon. The fact is he was the first man on the moon and nothing will ever change that!
