A while back, Australia self-appointed its queen in the person of Oscar winning actress Nicole Kidman. Later on, the international media took her royal title and gave it a more negative spin, calling her the Ice Queen, because of her apparent indifference towards the media and her reported fondness of Botox. She was still a queen nonetheless, but now her very position is threatened. One of the risks comes from her having forgotten to remove her yacht from a residential area where she once lived.

Britain’s Independent reports that, almost a year ago, Nicole was also one of the lucky few to get an apartment in one of Sydney’s most prestigious apartment buildings. However, problems for the Aussie star began only when she sold the property, the same outlet informs. “Problem is, when the Hollywood star sold up, she left her A$4.5m (£2.1m) yacht behind – and her former neighbors are furious about it.” the Independent writes.

Leaving a yacht behind wouldn’t be such a major issue, the publication further adds, if only the actress was not aware of the by-regulations that specifically enforce she should not do so. Just so we get the whole picture, the Independent brings forth the case of a fellow resident who was kicked out for putting flowers in his balcony, thus violating bylaws. This residential area, it is being said, is one where such principles regulate even the exact place where gulls must be fed and clothes hung out to dry.

Furthermore, there comes the question of why Nicole is the only one allowed to bypass them. “The bylaws also state that only residents can park their yachts in the adjacent marina. So, why is Kidman’s large boat, Hokulani, still moored there, nearly a year after she moved out? Favoritism, mutter disgruntled locals, who accuse the committee of turning a blind eye to its presence.” the Independent writes.

This recent backlash against Nicole comes on the heels of her latest movie, “Australia,” being panned by critics worldwide and several public appearances and announcements that were clearly not to the liking of the public here. Contacted by the publication, Kidman’s spokesperson said that her yacht was still there simply because she once considered acquiring another apartment in the same building, which did not happen. “[She was not] trying to take advantage of the situation. The [governing committee] would never do anything just because it’s her,” he explained.
