Need for Speed: Rivals is one of the video games that will be launched on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 alongside the current generation of consoles and the team working on it says that core gameplay will be similar, despite differences in graphics and other features.

Craig Sullivan, the creative director at developer Ghosts Games, is quoted by The Official Xbox Magazine as saying that, “There will be other little bits and pieces that we can’t talk about yet, and maybe the amount of players. But ultimately the games will be the same, it’s just there will be slight tweaks and modifications for the next-gen versions.”

The developer says that only next-gen versions of Rivals will include dynamic stormy days, with realistic weather and lighting effects.

But the racing experience that the Need for Speed series is known for will be the same on all platforms.

Another advantage for the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 is that they are more social and will allow players to take their unique game experiences and then share them with the community.

Sullivan adds, “I think that’s there to support where games are going in the future. There’s a trend for more open world, more freedom, less choreography; people are creating games that are very organic and are very different.”

Need for Speed: Rivals will be based on the cop versus racer dynamic that’s familiar to fans of the franchise.

The game was demoed during E3 2013 and I was impressed with the feeling of freedom that it offered and the way developers created a very competitive environment.

Need for Speed: Rivals will be out on November 19 on the PC and on current-generation consoles and the version of the game for the Xbox One and the PS4 will be out after the consoles are delivered.
