Criterion, the developers of the new Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, have announced that they are planning to release a PC based patch for the game next week, fixing a series of issues which players of the game have been experiencing since it was released.

Developer Matt Webster, posting on the official forums, has said that the main problem fixed was linked to those who used multi core processors on their machines, leading to crashes in screens like Car Select or Map Screen or in the loading screen which comes before an actual race event.

The developer adds, “Interestingly we're actually intrigued that the game works at all after our investigations with the problem actually manifesting itself in code that we shipped as part of Burnout Paradise.”

The developers have also fixed problems linked with the CL Eye Driver and issues gamers have been experiencing with corrupted Dreamshots when using the 16:9 aspect ratio.

Some problems with missing rain, snow and corona effects have also been eliminated from Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.

The developer says that its not clear how long testing on the patch and the certification process will take but that Criterion plans to put it out during next week.

The company also thanked all the gamers who reported issues with Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit and then helped the company get to the actual causes of the problems.

Since the racing game was released Electronic Arts and Criterion has also delivered three downloadable content packs for the video game, allowing gamers who don't have enough time to get access to all the vehicles in the game and allowing speeders to use some of the cars which had been reserved for the cops.

Criterion has managed to reinvigorate the Need for Speed series with the new Hot Pursuit and will likely create further games in the franchise in the future.
