The upcoming Need for Speed title that reboots the racing series from EA and Ghost Games features both a single-player and a multiplayer mode, although the two companies are still unclear on whether or not a permanent online connection is required to play the title in any game type.

The new Need for Speed title was revealed earlier this month through a short video comprised of in-game footage. Alongside it, EA and Ghost Games confirmed that it would once again feature car customization and urban nighttime racing.

Earlier this week, a lot of new details leaked online courtesy of an early listing from Microsoft, confirming five ways to play and multiple overlapping stories.

However, the most controversial reveal happened on Twitter a short while ago, when the official Need for Speed account mentioned that an online connection was required by the new game.

Need for Speed features single-player and multiplayer

Now, a bit more light is shed on the Need for Speed reboot, as the Twitter account mentions that the title features both a single-player and a multiplayer mode. It emphasizes that more details about the two modes are coming in the future, probably at E3 2015 next month.

At the same time, the studio also confirms that being connected to the internet allows the friends of a player to have a part of their narrative experiences, and that such a thing isn't possible when you're not online.

Even so, the Twitter account is still unwilling to plainly say if the Need for Speed reboot requires an internet connection at all times no matter its actual mode.

Expect to hear more next month at E3 2015, where EA is going to hold its own press conference. At the same time, an actual gameplay video is scheduled to debut, so it's quite likely that more official information is going to be shared at that time.

According to the last leak, Need for Speed is going to launch on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on November 3.
