Electronic Arts' hit racing game and, at the same time, one of the most appreciated titles in the world found its way onto the Nintendo DS handheld consoles back in 2004 when the game was released. As strange as it might seem at first, the Nintendo DS version of the game was different from the others: users were allowed to design their own decals in order to adorn any vehicle in the game.
The game allows the same game modes as its predecessor (Circuit,
Sprint, Drag and Drift races) but also introduces a few new game modes, including the SUV (which allows players to drive Hummers, too!) and the Street X mode (bumper to bumper racing against three opponents).
Although the game received its fair amount of critics for hip-hop slang, bad in-game advertising or frame rate issues, it still sold 9 million copies, entering the best-selling lists of the major consoles of the time (PS2, Xbox and GameCube).
