Slide windows to left and right edges of the desktop

Compared to what Windows XP offered, the desktop of Windows 7 is highly flexible. Features like Aero Shake, Aero Snap or everything the superbar brings in have been received with great relish by the users. However, it looks like the architects of the operating system could have walked a mile longer in this sense and explore additional possibilities that could be exploited in order to enhance desktop use.

Preme is not a freebie that completes the functionality of your Windows 7 desktop, but it definitely makes it more flexible and enriches the experience of working with it. The application is designed with the help of AutoHotkey and requires no installation (it’ll just add itself to startup). The functionality offered by Preme consists in offering shortcuts for different actions that affect your desktop. Thus you can add a new way to activate Flip 3D or tasks switcher, by simply moving your mouse to the upper left corner of the screen.

You can benefit from new capabilities like docking application windows to the left or right edge of your desktop whenever you click the area underneath the close, minimize and maximize buttons. Additional options include the possibility to scroll down on the title bar of any window in order to minimize it to the taskbar. Furthermore, all application screens can be set to lie on top of everything simply by holding your click on the titlebar for a second.

Preme can also make the Start menu pop up without having to click on the Windows flag button. Suffice to take the mouse cursor to the lower left hand corner and the menu unfolds right away. The application does not take too long to get used to and once “installed” you can take advantage of its services right away. Configuring it can be done in a snap as most of it is a matter of enabling or disabling the options you want.

Almost 1MB in size, Preme makes for a great desktop enhancement in Windows 7. It is free of charge and requires no installation, so there will be no modification made to the registry if you decide to use it.
