Windows XP remains incredibly popular six months before its official retirement date, with nearly 6 million users still running it in Thailand.

Rachod Isarankura Na Ayuthaya, head of Microsoft Thailand’s Windows Client Business Group, has revealed that 5.7 million Thai consumers are still using Windows XP right now, which exposes their computers and their data to hackers worldwide.

Microsoft will officially retire Windows XP on April 8, 2014, so with no security patches and updates, users sticking to this particular platform would basically be vulnerable to every single attempt aimed at exploiting newly found vulnerabilities.

Just as expected, Microsoft uses every occasion not only to emphasize the risks of sticking to Windows XP, but also to encourage everyone to move to Windows 8.1, as this is said to be the most secure and reliable version of Windows to date.
