14 DAY TRIAL // Nothing beats a good celebrity feud, unless it’s a spat between two TV stars. Wendy Williams has a reputation for calling a spade a spade no matter who might take offense with it, but NeNe Leakes, star of Bravo’s Real Housewives of Atlanta, hates it when this happens and she’s involved.
The other day, NeNe was photographed out and about carrying on her arm the bag in the picture above. That’s actually a Birkin, aka one of the most expensive totes available: it’s so costly that even celebrities have to get on a waiting list to get one.
Birkins are expensive, with the priciest going on sale for many thousands of dollars. NeNe’s is perhaps not top-of-the-line, but even so, it still costs upwards of $7,000 (€5,198), but she had it defaced by hiring an artist to write on it her most famous one-liners.
These include, as you can see in the photo as well, “So nasty and so rude,” “Close your legs to married men,” “I’m very rich [B-word],” and other words of wisdom to live by.
On her show the other day, Wendy discussed with her audience (starting at the 12.30 minute mark in the video below) whether defacing a Birkin like this was infuriating, in poor taste, or just an expression of art. She said she found it distasteful and unoriginal, and indirectly advised NeNe to not do it again.
This sounds pretty harmless (especially if you know Wendy and you know how harsh she can be when the situation calls it), but NeNe was having none of it. In fact, she’s going after Wendy (whom she calls Wendell, in reference to rumors that she’s a drag queen) on both Twitter and her personal blog.
Oh and by the way, Wendy should totally “be scared” of NeNe.
“Wendy I am sure people think that I’ve done something to you, maybe we had a beef or I slept with your man but none of that is true! I’ve actually only been nice to you! I gave you a beautiful black $3,200 [€2,377] Celine Phantom Bag to celebrate your 500th show but you haven’t spoken of that!” NeNe writes.
“But what you have chosen to do is constantly speak negative of me and lie on me! What you need to do is stop spewing hate! When it comes to gossip you are the lowest of the low! I know you hate because I turned down the chance to come on your Talk Show and I am sure you’re scared I will take your place (I know you have heard! Ummhmm wink wink) BE SCARED!” she continues.
She keeps the most essential bit of information for the end of her message: “My Birkin is being turned into a work of art to raise money for a worthy charity something you fail to mention on your show! I don’t have one Birkin I have five now run tell that WIG.”
This sounds like bragging on NeNe’s part. Her reaction would have been justified if Wendy had been meaner in her comments on her defaced Birkin, but the reality is that she wasn’t: she was merely saying she thought the bag had been ruined, and she was working with whatever information was available online at the time.
NeNe jumped the gun on this one by reacting this way, wouldn’t you say?
